Scala Minore is a self-published artist book written and produced during my residency at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. The work is part of a broader, ongoing project focused on temporary housing and antikraak  (caretaker-occupancy) living arrangements in the Netherlands, as well as the persistent demolition
of homes in the name of urban planning.

The project grew out of a desire to give something back to the tenants I met through 7 "blind" encounters—initiated by sending postcards to houses and buildings slated for demolition.
The work stems from my own personal memory of leaving a familiar place, and the fear of losing memory
itself—a concern fueled by the fact that Alzheimer’s disease runs in my family. From this starting point, the narrative expands outward, encompassing the strangers who welcomed me into their homes.

The text explores how the loss of a place and the fear of losing one’s memory come to resonate with each other, as well as my desire to become a possible demoliton doula.
